Thorpedo Anna, one of the most exciting horses in recent years, is gearing up for her 2025 racing season. Trainer Kenny McPeek has shared her potential race plans, including major events like the Grade 2 Azeri Stakes and the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park. Here’s what lies ahead for this remarkable filly.
Potential Races for Thorpedo Anna at Oaklawn
Trainer Kenny McPeek revealed that Thorpedo Anna might start her 2025 campaign with two key races at Oaklawn:
- Azeri Stakes (G2) – Scheduled for March 8, this race is an important prep event for fillies and mares.
- Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) – One of the premier two-turn races for older mares, set for April 12.
Additionally, McPeek hasn’t ruled out entering her in the Dubai World Cup (G1) on April 5, where she could compete against male horses for a $10 million purse.
Thorpedo Anna’s Training Update
Thorpedo Anna resumed training in early January at Gulfstream Park. She’s been under the watchful eye of retired jockey Robby Albarado, who regularly galloped her last year. According to McPeek, she’s already showing signs of readiness.
“She’s such a natural athlete,” McPeek said. “She’s bouncing out of her skin already. We’re just giving her some gallops and letting her ease back into her routine. Her first breeze is coming soon.”
Highlights of Thorpedo Anna’s Career
Thorpedo Anna had an incredible 2024, dominating the 3-year-old filly division with a record of 8 wins in 10 starts, including six stakes victories. Here are some of her top achievements:
