A new chapter begins for Grade 1 winner Arabian Lion as his first foal is born in Kentucky. Spendthrift Farm announced the arrival of a chestnut filly from one of Brandywine Farm’s best families. Arabian Lion, known for his impressive racing career and pedigree, is now making his mark as a sire.
Arabian Lion’s First Foal: A Promising Start
Spendthrift Farm revealed that Arabian Lion, a Grade 1-winning son of Triple Crown champion Justify, sired his first foal this week. The filly was born on Thursday at Brandywine Farm in Paris, Kentucky. She comes from an impressive lineage, being out of the Street Boss mare Champagne Sparkle, who is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Danza and a half-sister to millionaire Majestic Harbor.
Pam Robinson of Brandywine Farm expressed excitement about the filly, saying, “She’s a strong foal with great bone and substance. A beautiful chestnut with a striking blaze. We even had to double-check her gender because she looks so solid!”
Arabian Lion’s Racing Career and Achievements
Arabian Lion began his racing career with a remarkable debut as a 2-year-old at Santa Anita. He captured attention by running six furlongs in an impressive 1:09.78. At age 3, he showcased his versatility by winning the Sir Barton Stakes on the Preakness undercard at Pimlico, earning a stellar 103 Beyer Speed Figure.
His career highlight came in the Woody Stephens Stakes (G1) on Belmont Stakes day. Running seven furlongs in 1:21.70, Arabian Lion not only secured a Grade 1 victory but also posted a blazing 109 Beyer Speed Figure, the fastest by any 3-year-old in 2023.
Retired to Spendthrift Farm with $498,100 in earnings, Arabian Lion is the only Grade 1-winning son of Justify currently at stud.
Arabian Lion’s Pedigree and Legacy
Arabian Lion’s pedigree is deeply rooted in excellence. His dam, Unbound, is a stakes-placed mare by Distorted Humor, and his third dam is the legendary race mare and producer Personal Ensign. With this lineage, Arabian Lion brings both speed and stamina to his offspring.
In his first breeding season in 2024, Arabian Lion was incredibly popular, covering 178 mares. He is set to stand his second season at Spendthrift Farm with a stud fee of $20,000.
